Those aspirational images on Instagram or in property magazines have provided home interior inspiration. Now, you want to bring it to life, optimise space and add character. Is this a project you have the skills to embrace or are there benefits to working with an interior designer?

REVAMP, RENOVATE OR READY TO RENT: UPDATING YOUR PROPERTY

A home is more than a place to eat and sleep, it is your sanctuary; a place to live and enjoy life. You should feel happy about inviting people in and confident that the interior design is a reflection of your style.

Whether you are revamping a room, renovating a house or preparing a property for rent, you need the space to work well, to look great and to feel right. You may have the vision, skills, time and desire to put plans into action. Alternatively, you may be thinking of hiring an interior designer. So, what are the benefits of working with an interior designer and is it worth the cost?

5 REASONS TO WORK WITH AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

Interior Design is much more than a lick of paint and a selection of coordinating cushions. It is a way to optimise your property, your time and your budget. These are my 5 reasons to opt for interior design services.

1. AN INTERIOR DESIGNER CAN SAVE YOU MONEY

Have you ever ordered a stunning piece of furniture, only to discover it is far too big when it is delivered? Does the colour you’ve just painted on the walls look too dark or bright? On second thoughts, do those curtains and cushions jar with your scheme? Without a clear vision and plan, it is easy to make mistakes that add to the time and cost of your project. This is where my expertise pays dividends.

As an interior designer, significant effort is put into each style consultation. I take a deep dive into how you want the room or property to work. How the spaces are used and how you want to feel when you are in them. We share ideas and thoughts to discover what you like and dislike. You may have belongings that you wish to keep, so these need to be incorporated into the plan.

I also get my tape measure out! This ensures accuracy when planning the layout or selecting suitable fittings and fixtures. We also discuss the budget, so our design ideas are realistic. This also determines where I will look to source items for the project.

The style consultation ensures that I consider the space as a whole; an interior that suits how you live, work, socialise and relax. I love planning and my holistic approach will prevent costly mistakes! Every single element in your home will be considered and discussed before a final decision is made. No stone is left unturned!

2. AN INTERIOR DESIGNER SAVES YOU TIME
Those aspirational rooms weren’t created in a weekend! Updating your interior design is a time-consuming project. Even researching trusted trades, fabulous fabrics and the logistics of the room layout can take days. Coordinating timings is another challenge, what needs to be ordered when to keep the project moving forward? Then there is arranging the installation of all those fittings and features; the lighting, furniture and that stunning artwork for the walls.

You might have time to devote to your interior design project. However, if you are busy running around after your children or parents, have a full-time job, or just prefer to spend your downtime doing something fun, working with an interior designer makes sense. We are experts in our field, have a strong network of reliable contacts and understand the full process. Trust us to do the leg work and get your project finished, so you can reap the rewards.

3. AN INTERIOR DESIGNER REFINES YOUR STYLE

It is a myth that a designer will impose their taste on your home. It’s your home and a professional interior designer will collaborate with you on every decision and purchase so that it delivers your vision. You are likely to be drawn to the style of a designer whose work you have seen, but their concept will be tailored to your taste, practical requirements, personality and budget.

I advise that you meet with your designer for a consultation before signing on the dotted line. Establish rapport, as you need to trust your designer implicitly; the project will not work if you don’t.

Once you have found the right person for the job, it is over to them to explore and edit your priorities and passions into a style that works. Let’s face it, if you have a little bit of everything you have ever saved on Pinterest, it will look like a hot mess! Your designer will help refine your style and create a scheme that works. The result should reflect your personality, style and functional requirements.

4. AN INTERIOR DESIGNER CAN WORK ON ANY SIZE PROJECT

Interior designers can come up with wonderful space-optimising ideas for a small room or can prepare a scheme that flows through a large property. They can get creative with a tight budget or know the craftsperson to call for bespoke furniture and unique fittings. You don’t need an enormous house to hire a designer, you just need someone who is equipped to take on a challenge and deliver what you need.

I live in a small cottage with my family. We moved here thinking we would extend the house, but our situation changed. Rather than move, we altered the layout and upgraded everything. There were challenges that we wouldn’t have faced in a larger property, but I loved finding solutions that worked. Working with an interior designer and investing money into your current home to make it the best it can be is often more affordable and rewarding than moving.

5. AN INTERIOR DESIGNER IS TRAINED TO CREATE DESIRABLE HOMES

I undertook years of training to become an interior designer and have studied every detail from lighting schemes to pattern. I’ve also worked with trades in a construction company, which provided insight into the importance of processes and schedules. I have created design schemes for older properties and new homes, student accommodation and luxury apartments. I know that I can deliver concepts, source items, project manage and deliver results on time and within budget. This is how I know I can add value to your project.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

We were introduced to Alix and we immediately created a rapport. She took time to understand our preferences and put forward a number of options to consider, within your budget and space parameters. We would never have thought of some of those imaginative options.

HOW MUCH DOES AN INTERIOR DESIGNER COST?

Hire a celebrity interior designer and you will pay for their name and reputation. If fame doesn’t bother you, there are plenty of interior designers with the skills and expertise to help you make the most of your home at affordable prices. The charges vary, depending on what you want.

The lowest cost option is typically a two-hour style consultation. This might be all you need to kick-start the project or pull your ideas into a cohesive scheme. Alternatively, you might want a designer to manage the full home design and save yourself the stress. Most designers are happy to create bespoke packages for their clients, depending on their needs and budget.
