AVON WAY

PROJECT TYPE: Interior sourcing and styling for student accommodation

PROJECT LOCATION: Colchester, Essex

All photographs by Lucy Swainsbury @snapdragonstudio www.snapdragonstudio.co.uk

PROJECT BRIEF:

Having completed the build of new student accommodation, my client wanted several rooms to be fitted out and styled ready for marketing photography. With an agreed budget, I was to source and purchase all loose furniture, fixtures and fittings, co-ordinate specific design elements within the project and complete project in time for the photographer.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

I liaised with the client, architect, subcontractors and project managers to agree on the schedule, budget and desired outcomes. A specification had been produced by Suna Interior Design and we were tasked with taking this from the planning stage through to fruition.

The project involved working with subcontractors to keep to the budget and that the brief was followed. I also dealt with Building Control administration.

INTERIOR DESIGN SOLUTIONS:

I sourced and oversaw the delivery and installation of all furniture and fittings. When it came to a vanity unit for the communal toilets, nothing fitted the bill, so I designed a bespoke solution. I also designed interior and exterior signage for the project.

I styled the accommodation blocks to optimise space and created a practical and appealing space for students to work, sleep and socialise. I then worked with the photographer to produce images for marketing.

THE OUTCOME:

Client testimonial

“Alix was confident and competent in all aspects of the Avon Way interior design project. She understood the project and our objectives and worked with great initiative to deliver exactly what we wanted. Her organisational skills, creative flair and ability to work with others brought the project in on time and budget. The images look amazing and helped us to effectively market the accommodation.”
